Cabinet of Jakov Nenadović
Cabinet of Jakov Nenadović
The cabinet governed Revolutionary Serbia from 31 December 1810 to 11 January 1811. It was formed after Mladen Milovanović was dismissed, with Jakov Nenadović as head of the Governing Council and Đorđe Petrović (Karađorđe) as head of state. The cabinet had nine members and was based in Belgrade, handling administration, economy, judiciary, foreign policy, order, and arming the Serb forces.
Nenadović rose to power by bringing about six hundred armed men into the Assembly of Uprising Champions to force Milovanović out as president of the Governing Council. The Assembly represented the authority of Revolutionary Serbia at the time.
There is some historical disagreement about the exact timing: some say Nenadović became president in December 1810, while others, like historian Radoš Ljušić, argue he became president in 1809; he also suggests there were six members and two secretaries in November 1810.
On 11 January 1811, Karađorđe entered the Assembly and removed Nenadović, proclaiming a constitutional act that gave himself absolute military and political power.
