Byron is a town in Monroe County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2000 census, it had 1,394 residents. The town includes the small communities of Shennington and Valley Junction.

Geography and size: Byron covers about 36.1 square miles in total, of which 35.5 square miles are land and 0.6 square miles are water. The elevation is about 906 feet.

People and households: There were 501 households and 384 families. The population density was about 39 people per square mile. There were 556 housing units.

Racial makeup and diversity: about 90% White, 7% Native American, with small numbers of African American, Asian, other races, and those from two or more races. About 1.9% were Hispanic or Latino.

Family and living arrangements: 36.5% of households had children under 18; 64.1% were married couples; 7.8% had a female householder with no husband; 23.2% were non-families. 18% lived alone, and 4.6% had someone living alone who was 65 or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.15.

Age distribution: 30.3% under 18, 6.3% 18–24, 27.8% 25–44, 26.6% 45–64, and 9.0% 65 or older. The median age was 36.

Income: The median household income was $40,583, and the median family income was $44,286. Males had a median income of $30,750 compared with $24,271 for females. The per-person income was $16,707. About 6.8% of families and 10.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.2% of those under 18 and 8.8% of those 65 or older.
