Jean-Pierre Coursodon
Jean-Pierre Coursodon (1935–2020) was a French film critic and historian. He wrote reviews for Cinéma and for Anthologie du Cinéma. In 1967 he moved to the United States and wrote essays for Film Comment and Cinéma d'Aujourd'hui. From 1988 he was the American correspondent for Positif. In 1970 he co-authored with Bertrand Tavernier an encyclopedia, 30 ans de cinéma Américain, updated in 1991 as 50 ans de cinéma américain. Those editions have not been translated into English. He co-edited the English-language two-volume American Directors (1983) with Pierre Sauvage. He also translated several works into French, including Michael Powell's autobiography, André de Toth's memoirs, and biographies of Roberto Rossellini, Howard Hawks, and John Ford. He died in New York City on December 31, 2020, at age 85.
