Bruce Kimm
Bruce Edward Kimm (born June 29, 1951) is a former American professional baseball catcher, manager and coach. He played in Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers (1976–77), Chicago Cubs (1979) and Chicago White Sox (1980). He debuted on May 4, 1976, and played his last game on September 19, 1980. He batted and threw right-handed, finishing his playing career with a .237 batting average, 1 home run and 26 RBIs. He was the personal catcher for pitcher Mark Fidrych with the Tigers in 1976–77, and they had been teammates in the minor leagues in 1975.
Kimm began his managerial career in the Tigers organization in 1982. He found success in the minors, earning the Southern League Manager of the Year award in 1995 with the Orlando Cubs after a 76–67 season that reached the playoffs. From 1982 to 2002 he managed in the minor leagues, compiling a 405–382 record (.515).
In the majors, Kimm served as a coach for several teams and had a stint as a major league manager with the Chicago Cubs in 2002. He took over after the team started 34–49 and finished the year 33–45 under his leadership before Dusty Baker took over. He later worked as a coach for the Chicago White Sox in 2003. His other coaching stops included the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies and White Sox. He earned a World Series ring in 1997 with the Marlins as a coach.
