Coggeshall Town F.C.
Coggeshall Town Football Club, nicknamed the Seed Growers, is a football club from Coggeshall, Essex, England. They play at West Street and, in the 2024–25 season, compete in the Eastern Counties League Division One South, sitting 6th of 20. The club was founded on 27 September 1878 by the J.K. King seed company. The current manager is Dave Harrison and the chairman is Graeme Smith.
Over the years, Coggeshall Town has moved through many local leagues. They enjoyed success in the Essex & Suffolk Border League during the 1960s, winning back-to-back Premier Division titles in 1966–67 and 1967–68, another title in 1969–70, and lifting the League Cup in 1968–69 and 1969–70. They joined the Essex Senior League in 1972, with several spells outside and back in different leagues before returning to the top of the local system.
In the 2010s the club climbed back up: they won the Essex & Suffolk Border League Premier Division in 2017–18 and earned promotion to the North Division of the Isthmian League after the 2017–18 season. Their first Isthmian season ended in a playoff semi-final defeat. After a challenging 2022–23 campaign they were relegated to the Essex Senior League, and following the 2023–24 season they again dropped to Division One South of the Eastern Counties League.
Ground history and facilities have grown with the club. After stints at several grounds, Coggeshall Town settled at West Street in the 1960s. A pavilion (1961), a stand (1964) and a clubhouse (1971) were added, floodlights came in 1967, and the ground was purchased in 1981. The club’s highest attendance on record is 1,124, set at the end of the 1967–68 season when Coggeshall Town beat Tiptree United to win the Essex & Suffolk Border League.
