Box (torture)
Box (torture) was a form of solitary confinement used as punishment in humid and arid regions. The box, also called a hot box or sweatbox, exposed a person to extreme heat, which could cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, or death depending on how long they were kept inside. A related method called sweating used a heated room to force a person to cooperate with the torturers.
