Bogdan Iulian Macovei (1953 – 11 January 2021) was a Romanian handball coach, sports expert and author who lectured for the European Handball Federation. He was born in Drăgoiești, Suceava County, Romania, and coached both club and national teams, including Romania’s women’s team, Kometal Gjorče Petrov Skopje (Macedonia) women, the Macedonia women’s team, Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea (Romania) women and RK Pelister (Macedonia) men.

Macovei is best known for leading Romania as national coach on two occasions. The team finished 4th at the 1999 World Championship, and 7th at the 1990 World Championship and at the 2000 Olympic Games. At the club level in the 2000s, he coached RK Pelister, guiding them to a European final in the 2001–02 EHF Challenge Cup—the club’s first ever. He also led Kometal Gjorče Petrov Skopje to the EHF Champions League quarter-finals. With Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea, he won back-to-back Romanian league titles in 1999 and 2000 and earned a silver medal in 2001. He also coached Macedonia to 7th place at the 1997 World Championship.

After retiring, Macovei worked for the Romanian Handball Federation. He passed away on 11 January 2021 in Timișoara, aged 67 or 68.
