History highlights:

- Before 1918, the district offered only two years of high school; students who wanted four years had to go to nearby Youngstown.
- By 1922, the district started a respected music program.
- In 1935, the high school adopted the Spartans nickname after a student contest.
- In the 1950s, overcrowding led to the construction of additional schools: Market Street, West Boulevard, Stadium Drive, and Robinwood Lane elementary schools, plus Glenwood Junior High in 1961.
- A newer high school building opened in 1969 on Glenwood Avenue, replacing the old Market Street building.
