Blue Lights, Vols. 1 & 2
Blue Lights: Volumes 1 and 2 are two related jazz albums by American guitarist Kenny Burrell. They were recorded on May 14, 1958, at Manhattan Towers in New York City and released later that year on Blue Note (Volume 1: BLP 1596, Volume 2: BLP 1597). Alfred Lion produced the sessions, and the cover art was created by Andy Warhol. The albums fit into Burrell’s 1950s catalog, coming after Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane (1958) and before On View at the Five Spot Cafe (1959). In 1997, Blue Note reissued the two volumes with a new track order as separate CDs and as a two-disc set that combines Volumes 1 and 2.
All tracks are written by Kenny Burrell, unless noted otherwise. A reviewer for AllMusic, Scott Yanow, described the recordings as a very coherent jam session with a strong supporting group.
