Blue Hawk Mine

Blue Hawk Mine is a small gold mine on the east slope of Blue Grouse Mountain near Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, close to Okanagan Lake. It has several adits but was only opened and worked in 1934.

In 1934 about 5 metric tonnes of ore were mined, producing around 18 troy ounces of silver and 5 troy ounces of gold. The mine runs about 90 metres horizontally. Today the site is known to locals and a gravel road passes by it. The entrance often has pooled water, but the interior is usually dry and contains intact rock formations.

Officially, the BC government lists coordinates near 49.9839 N, 119.5180 W (with some reports giving a nearby variation). The elevation is about 965 metres.

Ownership history is unclear. Armac Investments Ltd. of Vancouver has been listed in connection with a 3 square kilometre area including the mine, and it may have been sold to Southern Pacific Development Corp. in 2004 or 2005. A 1994 assessment map shows the mine and its adit in detail.

Recent exploration notes that the ceiling collapsed in the adit beneath “Trench 5,” making that part impassable. An annotated map shows the collapse location.

Caution: Abandoned mines can be dangerous. Do not enter.
