The Bishop’s University Students’ Representative Council (SRC) is the official, non-profit, student-run body that represents all full-time Bishop’s University students in Sherbrooke, Quebec. It runs services, supports many clubs, and publishes student materials. It also organizes campus events from Orientation Week to the valedictorian election.

Key points

- What the SRC does: It offers academic and non-academic clubs, publishes The Quad yearbook, The Mitre, and the Student Handbook, and coordinates on-campus events and activities.

- History in brief: The group began in 1893 as the Students’ Executive Council. In 1979 a referendum renamed it the Students’ Representative Council and created the VP Media Affairs to manage Radio Bishop’s (CJMQ), the campus newspaper, the Mitre, the Quad, and the Handbook. The constitution was revised in 1983 and again in 2006 to restructure vice presidents. In 2015–2016, the SRC replaced some VP roles with General Councillors to improve efficiency and representation.

- How it is organized: The SRC has an Operations Department that handles money, planning, and events like Winterfest, and it hires staff for SRC operations. A Director of Finance and Operations sits on the SRC Executive Cabinet with the Directors of Communications & Marketing and Human Resources.

- On-campus operations: The SRC runs two student-staffed venues:
- The Gait (opened in 2006), a student-run shop open Thursdays and Saturdays.
- Doolittle’s General Store, the on-campus depanneur selling beer, bus tickets, snacks, ice cream, and event tickets, also run by students.

- Academic Affairs: This department has five Divisional Senators (one for each area) who vote at Bishop’s Academic Senate and attend their divisional faculty meetings and related subcommittees. They are overseen by the Vice-President of Academic Affairs.

- Student Life: Created in 2015–2016, the Vice-President of Student Life represents students in non-academic areas, focusing on health, safety, dining, athletics, residence, and overall student well-being. The department works with administration to support student services and also represents students on several university committees. It oversees all social, cultural, academic, religious, and charity clubs.
