Billy Race
William Race, known as Billy Race, was an English footballer born on 5 February 1896 in Horden, England. He played as an outside forward (winger). In non-league football, he had spells with Spennymoor United (1926–1928 and 1929–1931) and Horden Colliery Welfare. In the Football League, he played for Darlington (40 appearances, 8 goals) and Hartlepools United (19 appearances, 2 goals), totaling 59 league appearances and 10 goals. A 1927 Derby Daily Telegraph note described him as small in stature but with an elusive trickiness on the wing. He died in 1972 at about age 76.
