La Severa Matacera is a Bogotá-based Colombian band that blends ska, reggae, funk and rock. Formed in 1995–1996, the group includes Alejandro Veloza, Alex Arce, Gomer Ramirez and Juan Felipe Pinzón. Their first demo, Inmunidad, was released in 1999 in Mexico. They also appeared on Hispanic-American compilations.

In 2002 they released the album Cuando La Gente Se Pare on Hormagaloca Producciones and MTM Records Colombia. It has 13 tracks and features guests from Desorden Público (Venezuela) and Los Yerberos (Mexico). The album was recorded in Bogotá in 2001 and produced by Mocho and Kabeto, with mixing by Santiago Ochoa.

In 2005 they issued the Energia Positiva EP on their indie label LSM Records and won Shock Magazine’s Best Ska Reggae Band award. In early 2006 they began a 10th Anniversary US tour, playing major venues in Los Angeles, opening for The Aggrolites in San Francisco, and headlining the Victoria Ska Fest in Canada. They also performed in New York and finished new material at Ventana Studios in Los Angeles. Back in Colombia, they opened Rock al Parque in Bogotá for Manu Chao and played in Medellín for Total Chaos.

2007 saw a four-song EP with highlights from the California tour, while mixing for a new album continued at Version City Studios in New Jersey with producer King Django. A second US tour followed with Pachamama Culture and Sail Away Collective. In 2008 they headlined Festival FFF in Ambato, Ecuador, and released V.I.S.A. on Kalppa Records. The band released Paranoia in 2011 (Kalppa Records) and, in 2013, collaborated with Lafrontino on Light It Up, followed by the 2014 single From the Mountain. They headlined Rock al Parque in 2013 and performed at major Colombian festivals, including Car Audio Rock Festival in 2016.
