Bellone
Bellone is a white Italian grape variety that historians think goes back to Roman times. By 1990, about 3,000 hectares were still grown and allowed for blending in several Lazio DOCs. Wine expert Jancis Robinson says Bellone makes a juicy white wine. It is the main white grape in Bianco blends for the Cori, Marino, Nettuno, and Roma DOCs and for about a dozen IGPs. It is also allowed to be used in Frascati wines as a blending component (up to 30%). Bellone is grown mainly in Lazio and Umbria. It has many synonyms, including Albanese, Arciprete, Bello romano, Uva pantastico, and Zinna Vacca.
