Batticaloa Lighthouse
Batticaloa Lighthouse is in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, near the estuary at Palameenmadu. Built in 1913, the 28-meter white masonry tower has a balcony and lantern on a stone base. The light is powered by mains electricity and managed by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Its focal height is 27 meters, and the beam reaches up to 10 nautical miles, flashing white every 3 seconds.
The lighthouse is about 5 km from Batticaloa city on Bar Road. To visit, take Lake Road (also called Munich Vittoria Friendship Road) near Kallady Bridge, then follow Sinna Uppodai Lagoon for about 4 km. The area is nice for cycling or walking.
