Alexandre José Barbosa Lima Sobrinho (Barbosa Lima Sobrinho) was a Brazilian lawyer, writer, historian, essayist, journalist and politician. He was born on January 22, 1897, in Recife, Brazil, and died on July 16, 2000, in Rio de Janeiro, at age 103. He graduated in law and social sciences in Recife in 1917. In 1926 he published his first book and was elected president of the Brazilian Press Association. He became a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters in 1937. In the late 1990s Guinness World Records named him the oldest active journalist in the world. He wrote more than 70 books. He was also active in politics and ran as vice-presidential candidate in 1974 for the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB).
