Baltimore City College Knights
The Baltimore City College Knights, also known as the Collegians, are the varsity and junior varsity teams for Baltimore City College, a public college-prep high school in Baltimore, Maryland. The school fields 24 varsity teams (13 for girls, 11 for boys) and 6 junior varsity teams. Their colors are orange and black, and the mascot is the Black Knight.
History and program highlights:
- City College began athletics in the 1870s with early football and baseball and started formal varsity teams by 1895, one of the first Maryland high schools to sponsor basketball (1896).
- The Knights joined the MPSSAA in 1993, competing in Class 3A. Since then, City College has won championships at district, regional, and state levels across many sports.

The City–Poly game is the oldest high school football rivalry in Maryland and among the oldest public school rivalries in the United States. Through 2026, City leads the series 66–63–6. In 2025 Poly beat City for the first time since 2012.
- Many City College alumni have gone on to play in college, the NFL, and other levels of sport.
Facilities and current sports setup:
- Outdoor stadium: George Petrides Stadium at Alumni Field, used for football, soccer, lacrosse, and track and field. It features a six-lane, all-weather track and a full-size turf field.
- Indoor facilities: B.C.C. Athletic Center, a multi-venue complex that hosts most sports and physical education activities.
- The athletic complex is connected to the school’s campus with planned improvements, including ADA access and better security and lighting as part of a 2025 renovation project.
- The school supports 24 varsity sports and additional junior varsity teams in select sports.
Outlook and partnerships:
- Baltimore-based Under Armour is the official outfitter for all City College varsity teams. In 2024, Under Armour and DTLR launched “Rivalry Packs” celebrating the City–Poly rivalry.
- In 2024, Under Armour and partners hosted a uniform-unveiling event with free health resources for student-athletes. The brand’s campaigns have featured City College athletes as part of national programs.
