Bad Segeberg is a town in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and the capital of Segeberg district. It has about 18,900 residents and covers 18.87 square kilometers, at an elevation of 27 meters. The town is located roughly 50 kilometers northeast of Hamburg and 25 kilometers west of Lübeck.

Bad Segeberg is famous for the Karl May Festival, held every year since 1952 in Kalkberg Stadium, an outdoor arena built into a former quarry on the Kalkberg hill. A large television tower stands in the town center.

Geography and nature: The town sits near the eastern edge of the Ostholstein hills. The western part is bordered by the Trave river; the north by the Ihlsee and nearby forests; the northeast by the Großer Segeberger See; and the west again by forests. To the south are the towns of Högersdorf and Klein Gladebrügge.

Geology: The area is notable for karst features—the only karst landscape in Schleswig-Holstein—with sinkholes present in the region. Many sinkholes in the town have been filled, and the Kleiner Segeberger See is a water-filled sinkhole at the foot of the Kalkberg.
