Backyard Baseball is a kid-friendly baseball video game series that started in 1997. Made by Humongous Entertainment, the original game lets you pick from 30 neighborhood kids to form a team and play baseball. From Backyard Baseball 2001 onward, real Major League Baseball stars appear as kids on the teams. You can play a single game, a batting practice, a spectator mode, or a full season with playoffs called the Backyard Baseball League and the World Series.

The first Backyard Baseball title was remastered for Windows (via Steam) on October 10, 2024, with iOS and Android versions released on March 27, 2025, and Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 on June 12, 2025. Backyard Baseball 2001 also got a remaster, released for Windows, iOS, and Android on July 8, 2025. A new Backyard Baseball game, the first original release since Backyard Sports: Baseball 2015, was announced for 2026.

Pablo Sanchez, one of the series’ most famous characters, is considered one of the strongest athletes in video game history. The series is noted for its diverse cast in terms of gender, race, disability, and skill levels, as well as its strong lineup of standout characters.

In Backyard Baseball 2001 and later, many real MLB players appear as kid characters, including Hall of Famers like Barry Larkin, Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey Jr., Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Ichiro Suzuki, Barry Bonds, and others. Several players show up across multiple games.
