Aycliffe railway station
Aycliffe railway station served the village of Aycliffe in County Durham, England. It had two platforms and was on the East Coast Main Line between Darlington and Durham.
History
- Opened on 19 June 1844 by the Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway.
- Later became part of the North Eastern Railway, then the London and North Eastern Railway after 1923.
- In 1948, it came under British Railways’ Eastern Region.
- Closed to passengers on 2 March 1953. The station is now disused.
Today, trains still travel on the electrified East Coast Main Line, but they do not stop at Aycliffe.
