Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy
Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy is the fourth live album by Mylène Farmer, released on 4 December 2006. It captures her 2006 tour in Paris, with 13 shows at the Bercy arena from 13 to 29 January. The album features 20 songs performed on stage, drawn from most of her studio albums but not from Cendres de Lune or Innamoramento. Jérôme Devoise mixed the project, which was released on CD and DVD in several editions. The live sound uses modern arrangements for older hits and a more stripped style for recent ballads.
Two singles came from the project: "Avant que l'ombre..." (released 26 November 2006) and "Déshabillez-moi" (released 5 March 2007). Both were top ten hits in France.
Critical and commercial reception was strong. The DVD box set was a major success, earning Diamond status after one week. In France, the DVD debuted at number 1 and stayed there for four weeks, remaining in the top 10 for 13 weeks. The CD also reached number 1 on the French Albums Chart on 9 December 2006, though it dropped in the following weeks; total sales were around 130,000 copies and it was certified Gold. In Belgium (Wallonia), the DVD again topped the chart for eight weeks and the CD reached its peak at number 3. In Switzerland, the CD reached around number 18 before dropping off.
The second DVD includes several extras—such as “L'Ombre des autres,” “Scene by scene views,” “Works by Escalle,” “Haute Couture,” and “Live Alternative”—plus a hidden bonus titled “La Cassar mobile.” Critics generally praised the release for its strong visuals and performance, with a few notes about sound quality on the DVD.
Overall, Avant que l'ombre... à Bercy offered a high-quality document of Mylène Farmer’s 2006 Paris shows and sold well across formats.
