Austrobrillia is a genus of chironomid midges, small flies in the family Chironomidae. Taxonomy: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Arthropoda; Class Insecta; Order Diptera; Family Chironomidae; Subfamily Orthocladiinae. The genus Austrobrillia was described by Freeman in 1961, with Austrobrillia longipes Freeman, 1961 as the type species.
For many years only one species, A. longipes from Australia, was known. In 2000, two more species from South America were described, based on their pupal exuviae (the shed skins from pupae).
