Ashmore, Texas

Ashmore is a small, unincorporated community in Gaines County, Texas. It sits along Farm to Market Road 403 and Texas State Highway 83. A post office operated there from just after 1913 until 1948. The town is named after a local land developer. In 1939 it was surveyed by Coleman L. Henson. A school opened in 1923 and joined Loop Independent School District in 1937. By 1980 and again in 1990, about 25 people lived in Ashmore.
