Archaies Kleones
Archaies Kleones is a small community in the Peloponnese region of Greece, in the Corinthia regional unit. It is part of the municipality of Nemea and had a population of 540 residents at the 2021 census. The village sits on a hillside about 15 km east of Nemea and around 24 km southwest of Corinth.
The name comes from the ancient town Cleonae (Greek: Κλεωναί), which lay on the old road from Argos to Corinth in the region of Argolis. Cleonae was known for the Nemean Games, and in Greek myth Heracles is said to have killed the brothers Eurytus and Cteatus near Cleonae. The settlement was known as Condostavlos or Kontostavlos until 1963.
Wine region: Archaies Kleones lies in the Peloponnese, near the famous Nemea red-wine area. Nemea is Greece’s best-known red wine region, using the Agiorgitiko grape. Wines from this grape are deep red with violet or blue hues and a rich, velvety palate. The coordinates of Archaies Kleones are about 37.8217°N, 22.750°E.
