Antonio Manganelli
Antonio Manganelli (8 December 1950 – 20 March 2013) was an Italian police chief who led the Polizia di Stato from June 2007, taking over from Gianni De Gennaro. Born in Avellino, he studied at the University of Naples and the University of Modena. In the 1980s, he worked closely with Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in a crime-fighting group. His work helped bring down Sicilian Mafia figures such as Nitto Santapaola and Giuseppe Lucchese, among others. In 1995 he was appointed police chief in Palermo and Naples. He served as deputy chief of police in 2000 before becoming the official chief of police. He died in Rome at the age of 63.
