Anosibe Ambohiby is a small Betsileo village in Madagascar’s Central Highlands. It sits in the crater of the Ambohiby Massif, a large alkaline ring-shaped volcanic formation more than 13 km across dating from the Late Cretaceous. The village is in Tsiroanomandidy District, Bongolava Region, about 8 km from Antaniditra and 18 km from Tsiroanomandidy city. It was founded in 2008 by Betsileo farmers from Manandriana who needed more farmland, with village elder Razafinatala helping to choose the site. Today about 50 houses shelter around 300 residents. The people largely grow citrus fruits—oranges and lemons—and sell them in nearby markets; transportation is difficult because the roads are poor. The village is surrounded by four streams and sits on fertile soil due to the alkaline deposits. The local leader is Rasamoelina Toky Fanomezantsoa.
