Andy McNab's Tour of Duty
Andy McNab's Tour of Duty
Andy McNab's Tour of Duty is a British documentary series about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It aired on ITV4 from 10 June to 15 July 2008. The show is hosted by former SAS soldier Andy McNab and shares what life is like for Allied soldiers, focusing on personal experiences rather than politics.
The series mixes first-hand accounts from soldiers, amateur footage shot on the ground, official Ministry of Defence archive material, and reconstructions of key engagements. It was produced for ITV4 by Flashback Productions as a six-episode, one-hour-per-episode program, with the aim of boosting the channel’s audience among men aged 25 to 44.
Six one-hour episodes cover military topics, with most of each episode devoted to narrating and recreating a particular engagement. A second, unrelated engagement is also narrated and reconstructed in a short slot. The show includes the soldiers’ accounts and real footage interwoven with the reconstructions. There are also “McNab briefings” where McNab explains weapons and tactics, along with background information about the units involved.
The program was produced in the United Kingdom, in English. Executive producers were Taylor Downing and David Edgar.
