Amy Spencer
Amy Spencer, born 19 September 1985 in Wigan, is a retired English sprinter who specialised in the 200 metres. She rose to prominence as a teenager, winning the British Under-13 80 metres title in 1998 and the AAA Under-15 200 metres title the following year. In 2001 she was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.
Her main event was the 200 metres, where she won a silver medal at the World Youth Championships in 2001 and finished seventh at the World Junior Championships in 2002. At the 2002 World Junior Championships she also earned a bronze in the 4x100 metres relay and a silver in the 4x400 metres relay. In 2003 she competed at the World Indoor Championships (without reaching the final) and placed fourth at the European Junior Championships.
Her best indoor 200 metres time was 23.20 seconds (March 2003, Birmingham) and her best outdoor time was 23.45 seconds. She also ran the 100 metres in 11.66 seconds (June 2001, Mannheim). Spencer quit athletics in 2005 and competed for Belgrave Harriers. Her younger brother, Tom Spencer, is a professional rugby league player who debuted for Wigan Warriors in 2012.
