America Drinks & Goes Home
“America Drinks & Goes Home” is a song by the Mothers of Invention written by Frank Zappa. It was recorded in November 1966 and released in 1967 on the album Absolutely Free. The track has two versions on side 2: “America Drinks” and “America Drinks & Goes Home.” Between them is a sequence that includes “Status Back Baby,” “Uncle Bernie’s Farm,” “Son of Suzy Creamcheese,” and “Brown Shoes Don’t Make It.” Zappa titled the whole piece “Suite No. 2: The M.O.I. American Pageant (2nd in a Series of Underground Oratorios).” The work was performed many times during the Mothers of Invention’s 1967 residency at the Garrick Cinema in Greenwich Village, New York City.
