Alijadores de Tampico, the Tampico Lightermen, were a professional baseball team from Tampico, Tamaulipas. They started in 1937 and joined the Mexican League, winning championships in 1945 and 1946. Financial troubles kept them from playing from 1949 to 1970. A new stadium, Parque Alijadores, was built in Tampico between 1968 and 1970 with funding from Nicolás Canavati. When the league expanded in 1971, the team was briefly known as Estibadores de Tampico (Tampico Stevedores) for two seasons, then returned to Alijadores and won the 1975 title. After 1979 Tampico left the league and the franchise moved to Toluca as Osos Negros de Toluca. The team came back in 1983 as Astros de Tampico, played 1984 as Alijadores again, and since then Tampico has not had another Mexican League team.
