Alexandre Bouzaid
Alexandre Bouzaid (born 29 June 1981) is a French-Senegalese épée fencer who competes for Senegal in international events. He was born in Kaolack, Senegal, and grew up in Libourne near Bordeaux, France. Of Lebanese descent, he began fencing at age four and quickly found success, winning the French national title for his age group in 1996 and becoming Cadet World Champion in 1998 in Valencia. He also performed well at the Junior World Cup circuit.
Bouzaid joined the Saint-Gratien fencing club and studied at INSEP, later pursuing business studies at ESG and ESSEC. He earned a team silver at the 2007 Universiade and an individual silver at the French senior championships. After not qualifying for the 2008 Olympics, he began fencing for Senegal, taking dual citizenship. He became African champion in 2010 and 2011. Bouzaid competed in the 2012 London Olympics, defeating Poland’s Radosław Zawrotniak in the first round before losing to Italy’s Paolo Pizzo.
