Alejandro Romano (1664–1724) was a Jesuit missionary in New Spain (Mexico). He was born in Naples and joined the Jesuits in 1680, taking his final vows in 1699. In 1700 he became procurator of the Jesuit missions in New Spain, succeeding Juan de Ugarte. He was promoted to provincial superior in 1719, a position he held until 1722. Romano opposed the founding of the Convent of Corpus Christi in Mexico City for Indigenous women, and in a 1723 letter he argued that native women were not suited to communal life, had short attention spans, and could not keep a vow of chastity. He died in 1724 while serving as rector of the Casa Profesa.
