Ahmad-Hossein Adl
Ahmad-Hossein Adl (1889–1963) was an Iranian politician and educator. He served as minister of agriculture in several governments under Ahmad Qavam, Ebrahim Hakimi, and Fazlollah Zahedi. He was the first head of the College of Agronomy and later taught at the Faculty of Agriculture in Karaj.
Born in Tabriz to Mirza Masoud Khan Adl-ol molk, a newspaper publisher, Adl studied agriculture in France and returned to Iran in 1922 to work in the Ministry of Public Amenities. In 1930 he became director of the College of Agronomy, which later evolved into the Faculty of Agriculture in Karaj. After the ministry of Public Amenities was divided into three branches, he became the assistant director of the Department of Agriculture and then acting director for two years.
He later moved into private business, though he briefly served as minister again in Fazlollah Zahedi’s cabinet. Adl also managed a textile factory and headed Isfahan’s Chamber of Commerce, working to promote industrial development in Isfahan. He died in a car accident in 1963 while traveling from Isfahan to Tehran.
The Karaj Agriculture School was later merged into the University of Tehran.
