Acantilados de Los Gigantes
Acantilados de Los Gigantes, or Cliffs of the Giants, are towering sea cliffs on Tenerife’s west coast. They rise about 500 meters above the sea and are made of basalt. In Guanche times they were known as Muralla del Infierno, the Wall of Hell. The dramatic cliffs are a popular sight and have helped boost local tourism. The nearby town of Los Gigantes grew in the 1960s after British investment and features a black-sand beach, a marina, and a natural pool. Nearby places include Playa de la Arena and Puerto de Santiago. The area is about 125 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and about 45 km from the island’s international airport. Coordinates: 28°17′47″N 16°51′21″W.
