A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation is the debut international studio album by English indie rock band The Wombats. It was released on 5 November 2007 by 14th Floor Records. Many of its songs first appeared on the band's 2006 Japan-only album Girls, Boys and Marsupials. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, with additional work at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, Brick Lane and RAK Studios in London. The music blends indie rock, post-punk and new wave and runs 44 minutes and 24 seconds. It was produced by Stephen Harris, The Wombats and Jimmy Robertson.

Singles from the album include Moving to New York (26 October 2006), Backfire at the Disco (9 April 2007), Kill the Director (25 June 2007) and Let’s Dance to Joy Division (8 October 2007). The album reached number 11 on the UK Albums Chart. It features a quirky pregap before the first track where the band pretends to make wine glasses ring and promotes Beaujolais wine. Lyrics are by Matthew Murphy, with music by The Wombats. By April 2015, UK sales stood at 335,361 copies. The full title is Proudly Present: A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, but it is usually shortened to A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation. A companion DVD includes SXSW footage and music videos. The album sits between Girls, Boys and Marsupials (2006) and This Modern Glitch (2011).
