A Gift from Bob
A Gift from Bob is a 2020 British Christmas biographical drama film directed by Charles Martin Smith and written by Garry Jenkins. It’s based on James Bowen’s books A Gift from Bob and The Little Book of Bob, and acts as a sequel to the 2016 film A Street Cat Named Bob. Luke Treadaway returns as James Bowen, with Anna Wilson-Jones, Kristina Tonteri-Young, and Bob the Cat in supporting roles. The film is promoted as A Christmas Gift from Bob.
The story looks back at the last Christmas James and Bob spent living on the streets, showing how Bob helped him through a tough time and taught them both about the true meaning of Christmas spirit.
Bob the Cat, who died in June 2020 a few months after filming finished, is remembered in the film’s end credits dedication.
Production began in November 2019 and wrapped in early 2020. The accompanying soundtrack, A Gift from Bob—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, was released on 6 November 2020, with music by Patrick Neil Doyle and songs by K.T. Wild. Some songs are performed by Luke Treadaway, and the end credits include Coming Back To Me (Coming Home) by K.T. Wild.
The film was released in the United Kingdom by Lionsgate on 6 November 2020, with DVD and Blu-ray copies available from 30 November 2020.
Rotten Tomatoes reports 78% positive reviews from 18 critics, with an average rating of 5.9/10.
