- Relegation notes: Ajaccio was relegated for financial reasons but was later reinstated to Ligue 2 after appeals. Martigues were relegated to Départemental 3. - Teams moving between divisions around the same time: From Ligue 1, Metz, Lorient, and Clermont Foot joined Ligue 2. Promoted to Ligue 1 from Ligue 2 were Auxerre, Angers, and Saint-Étienne.
- Promotion play-offs: The end-of-season playoff involved the 3rd–5th placed teams in Ligue 2 and the 16th-placed team in Ligue 1. Metz beat Reims 4–2 on aggregate to return to Ligue 1; Reims were relegated to Ligue 2. Clermont Foot beat Boulogne 4–3 on aggregate and stayed in Ligue 2. Boulogne were promoted following Ajaccio’s administrative relegation.
