2024 Philadelphia Phillies season recap

The Phillies won the National League East, finishing with a 95-67 record. They earned a playoff spot on September 20 with a 12-2 win over the Mets and clinched the division on September 23 with a 6-2 win over the Cubs, their first NL East title since 2011. They were eliminated by the Mets in the National League Division Series, four games to one.

Offseason moves added depth with Kolby Allard, Spencer Turnbull, and Whit Merrifield. They also traded Jake Cave to the Rockies for cash considerations and dealt Connor Brogdon to the Dodgers.

Season overview: After a disappointing end in the previous year’s NLCS, the team had high hopes. They stumbled early, particularly against the Braves, but found their stride by mid-April, completing a seven-game win streak. April ended 20-11, and Ranger Suarez was named NL Pitcher of the Month.

May featured long win streaks and big moments, including J.T. Realmuto’s 14,000th franchise home run on May 22. By May 24, they were 28-6 over their last 34 games and stranded at a 36-14 start, becoming the first team to reach 40 wins on May 31.

June cooled them slightly (15-11) but the lead remained comfortable. July was rough (10-17), but the All-Star break found them at 62-34, eight-and-a-half games up. They stayed in control through August and finished August at 80-56.

In September they cemented their postseason status and division title, going 15-11 to close the year. They ended the season six games ahead of the second-place team and posted the second-best record in the National League and MLB overall, behind the Dodgers.

Highlights included Realmuto’s landmark 14,000th franchise home run and Suarez’s April pitching honors. The Phillies’ strong finish and division crown marked a successful season, though they fell short of a championship in the playoffs.
