2021–22 Pakistan Premier League
The 2021–22 Pakistan Premier League (PPL) was planned as the 62nd season of Pakistan’s domestic football and the 13th PPL edition. Teams were to play each other twice, for a total of 22 games. However, the league was not recognised by FIFA because of political turmoil in the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) led by Ashfaq Hussain Shah. FIFA suspended the PFF on 7 April 2021 due to third‑party interference, stopping football activity in the country.
The season began but was suspended after a few months and eventually cancelled. At the time it ended, WAPDA led the standings with 24 points after about a dozen matches.
Matches were held at centralized venues rather than home-and-away sites: first at Ibn-e-Qasim Bagh Stadium in Multan (Aug–Sep 2021) and then at Municipal Football Stadium in Rawalpindi (from 14 Oct 2021). A Peshawar leg was planned for November, but the season was abandoned.
Several clubs did not participate or declined to enter. K-Electric did not participate (following their 2020 decision to shut down that department). Other teams not involved included National Bank, Pakistan Airlines, Karachi Port Trust, Baloch Nushki, Ashraf Sugar Mills, and, later, Gwadar Port Authority and Baloch Quetta who had been promoted. Huma FC from Islamabad made their top-tier debut, and Lyallpur joined as a replacement for teams not taking part. Masha United and Afghan FC chose not to participate, saying the federation was not recognised by FIFA.
As a result, there were no champions and no relegations for the 2021–22 season.
