2019–20 Indiana State Sycamores men's basketball team
The Indiana State Sycamores represented Indiana State University during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men’s basketball season. They were led by head coach Greg Lansing, in his 10th year, and played home games at Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. They were part of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).
Record and standing: The team finished 18–12 overall and 11–7 in MVC play, tying for third place in the conference. They lost in the MVC tournament quarterfinals to Missouri State.
Key players and milestones: Tyreke Key became the 40th ISU player to reach 1,000 career points, achieving the milestone on December 30, 2019, against Southern Illinois, with 20 points. By late January, Key had eight games with 20 or more points and was averaging 17.2 points per game. Jordan Barnes reached the ISU top 10 in career scoring, 3-pointers, assists, and steals; by February 16 he had 1,496 points, 265 three-pointers, 383 assists, and 129 steals. Key later continued climbing ISU’s career scoring list.
Season context: The 2019–20 season followed a 2018–19 season in which ISU went 15–16, 7–11 in MVC play, finishing eighth in the conference and losing in the first round of the MVC tournament.
