The 2016 Tennessee Democratic presidential primary was held on March 1, as part of Super Tuesday. Hillary Clinton won by a wide margin over Bernie Sanders, taking about 66% of the vote to Sanders’ 32%. Clinton earned 44 delegates to Sanders’ 23, out of 67 total delegates.

Clinton’s big win was driven by strong support from African American voters, who made up about one-third of the electorate and backed Clinton 89–10. She also won white voters (57–42) and voters across all income and education groups. Sanders carried the youth vote, but Clinton won voters over 45 by 78–21.

Geographically, Clinton won in Memphis (82–18), Nashville (66–33), Central Tennessee (66–35), and Eastern Tennessee (58–42).
