2016 IFCPF World Championships Qualification Tournament
What it was
A men's 7-a-side football tournament for athletes with cerebral palsy and other qualifying disabilities. Organized by the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF), this event was a qualifier for the 2017 IFCPF CP Football World Championships.
When and where
- Dates: 29 July – 6 August 2016
- Location: Vejen, Denmark (one host city and venue)
Format
- Teams: 13 national teams
- Group stage: Four groups (three groups of three teams and one group of four)
- Each group played a round-robin
- Advancement: The two highest-ranked teams in each group moved to the knockout rounds for positions 1–8; the remaining teams competed for positions 9–13
- Knockout stage: Quarterfinals, semifinals, and final
- If a knockout game was tied after 60 minutes, extra time (two 10-minute halves) and then penalties decided the winner
- Scoring: 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw; group standings were decided by overall results (not head-to-head)
Rules and classification
- 7-a-side football with no offside, a smaller pitch, and one-handed throw-ins
- Matches: two 30-minute halves with a 15-minute halftime
- Disability rules: Players with non-progressive brain injuries (e.g., cerebral palsy) who are ambulant
- Teams must include at least one C5 or C6 player at all times, and no more than two C8 players on the field simultaneously
