- Mehdi Bennani led the Yokohama Trophy by one point over Michelisz.
- Proteam Racing were absent after Dušan Borković left the team. Rickard Rydell was recovering from thyroiditis, and Nika International did not enter the Hungarian round.
- Hungary introduced the first compensation weight changes of the year: the Citroën C-Elysée WTCC carried a full 60 kg ballast, bringing its weight to 1,160 kg; Honda, Chevrolet and Lada cars stayed at 1,100 kg.
- Free practice sessions were wet, with López fastest in both. Loeb crashed into tyre barriers in FP1. Valente and Filippi received five-place grid penalties for race one due to ignoring yellow flags.
- Qualifying saw a red flag in Q1 after Tarquini’s crash. In Q2 and Q3, Citroën cars led the field; Michelisz took pole for Race 2. Campos Racing successfully appealed penalties affecting Valente, allowing him to start on the front row for race one.
- The first start of Race 1 was aborted because of grid misalignment, requiring an extra formation lap; López moved from third to first into the first corner to take the lead. Chilton made progress at the start of lap two, passing Michelisz. López and Muller eventually pulled away, with López winning by more than 3.9 seconds. Valente finished third and won the Yokohama Trophy.
- Tarquini was later excluded from Race 1 for a parc fermé rule breach related to tyre checks during repair time.
- In Race 2, Michelisz started on pole and led the early stages. A first-corner incident involving Ma and Huff caused Huff to retire. López pressed Loeb for a fourth place but, in the end, Michelisz topped an all-independent podium, with Coronel second and Chilton third.
