Hôtel de Ville, Le Tampon
Hôtel de Ville, Le Tampon is the city hall of Le Tampon, Réunion, in the Indian Ocean, on Rue Hubert Delisle. Le Tampon became its own town in 1925, separated from Saint-Pierre. The first town hall was a small, one-storey wooden building with a porch supported by four Doric columns and a tiny lantern.
In the early 1960s, under mayor Paul Badré, the council decided to build a larger town hall on the same street. Construction began in 1962. The new building was designed by local architects Jean Hébrard and Paul Abadie in a modern style, and built with concrete, glass and stone by the Isautier Group. It opened in 1965.
The front of the new building is asymmetrical and faces Rue Hubert Delisle, with steps up to a glass doorway on the left. The ground floor has small rectangular windows, and the first floor features tall casement windows with a projecting slatted frame. The roof is flat. Inside, the main room is the Salle du Conseil (the council chamber).
