2013 Tour de San Luis
The 2013 Tour de San Luis was the seventh edition of the race and part of the 2012–2013 UCI America Tour. It took place from January 21 to 27, covering about 1,009 km across seven stages in Argentina.
Overall winner: Daniel Díaz (Argentina) riding for San Luis Somos Todos. He finished ahead of Tejay van Garderen (USA) of BMC Racing Team and Alex Correia Diniz ( Brazil) of Funvic Brasilinvest–São José dos Campos. The other main winners were Emmanuel Guevara (Argentina) who took the mountains jersey, Leandro Messineo (Argentina) who won the sprint jersey, and Alejandro Sivori (Argentina) who won the youth jersey. The team classification went to BMC Racing Team.
Stage-by-stage highlights:
- Stage 1 (164 km to Villa Mercedes): A large break came back for a sprint finish; Mark Cavendish won for Omega Pharma–Quick-Step after a dramatic final few hundred meters.
- Stage 2 (171.4 km to Terrazas del Portezuelo): A late break persisted, with Sacha Modolo taking the stage sprint.
- Stage 3 (queen stage to Mirador del Potrero): Alex Correia Diniz attacked late on the climb and won the stage, taking the overall lead.
- Stage 4 (time trial): A flat 10 km course where Svein Tuft won the stage; Michał Kwiatkowski moved into the race lead briefly.
- Stage 5 (Carolina): A long, mostly flat stage saw Emmanuel Guevara win, while Daniel Díaz gained enough time to move into the overall lead.
- Stage 6 (Mirador del Sol finish): The last mountain stage; Alberto Contador attacked late to win the stage, closing the gap to Díaz and moving closer in the overall standings.
- Stage 7 (final stage): A chase ended in a mass sprint won by Mattia Gavazzi; Díaz finished with the peloton and retained his overall lead to claim the title.
The 2013 Tour de San Luis was notable for Díaz’s overall victory and for Guevara’s mountains title, Messineo’s sprint win, and the strong performance by the BMC Racing Team in securing the team classification.
