Thom Tuck
Thom Tuck, born Thomas Tuck on 28 March 1982 in Leeds, England, is a British actor and comedian. He is best known as a member of the sketch group The Penny Dreadfuls and as a stand-up performer. He was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Early life and education:
Tuck spent parts of his childhood in Sri Lanka, Denmark, Egypt, Malawi, Zimbabwe and the Philippines. He attended the American International School of Dhaka in Bangladesh, Cardinal Heenan Roman Catholic High School in Leeds, and Notre Dame Sixth Form College. He studied philosophy at the University of Edinburgh and graduated with a 2:2. While at university, he acted, wrote and directed with the Edinburgh University Theatre Company, directed a piece by Sam Holcroft, and was a member of the improv group The Improverts, where he first met fellow comedians Humphrey Ker and David Reed.
Career:
Radio and writing: He has worked on radio with The Penny Dreadfuls Present... (with Reed and Ker) and BBC Radio 4's Thom Tuck Goes Straight-to-DVD. The Penny Dreadfuls began at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2006 and continued with new sketches for several years. They also created the BBC Radio 4 series The Brothers Faversham (2008) and a sequel, and later produced historical comedy plays.
The Penny Dreadfuls: In 2011 BBC Radio 4 commissioned Thom Tuck Goes Straight To DVD; the pilot aired February 2012 and a full four-episode series began in April 2013.
Television and stage: His TV credits include BBC Three's Comedy Shuffle, The Wrong Door, The Supersizers..., Dick and Dom's Funny Business and Mongrels. He hosts and curates The Alternative Comedy Memorial Society with John-Luke Roberts at the New Red Lion Theatre in Islington.
Video games: In 2014 he voiced Kablooey, a dapper peacock in PopCap's Peggle Blast.
Live performance: Tuck has performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe many times since 1999, including appearances in 2006–2013 and again in 2016, 2018 and 2022. He has also performed in London, including a 2013 show at Pleasance Theatre and a 2018 run at the King’s Head Theatre in Islington.
