2004 United States Senate election in Maryland
The 2004 United States Senate election in Maryland was held on November 2, 2004. Incumbent Democrat Barbara Mikulski won re-election to a fourth term, defeating Republican E. J. Pipkin. Mikulski received 1,504,691 votes (64.80%), while Pipkin received 783,055 votes (33.72%). Mikulski carried most of Maryland’s counties, including Allegheny, Caroline, St. Mary’s, and Worcester counties. This is the most recent time a Democratic Senate candidate won those counties, and it was the last time the winning candidate carried a majority of Maryland’s county-level jurisdictions in a U.S. Senate election.
