1983 Kansas Jayhawks football team
The 1983 Kansas Jayhawks football team represented the University of Kansas in the Big Eight Conference during the 1983 NCAA Division I-A season. In Mike Gottfried's first year as head coach, the Jayhawks went 4–6–1 overall, with a 2–5 record in the Big Eight, finishing seventh in the conference. They were outscored by opponents 320 to 296. Home games were played at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, Kansas.
A highlight was an upset of 10th-ranked USC in Los Angeles, a 26–20 victory that remains Kansas' only game against USC in school history.
The team's statistical leaders were quarterback Frank Seurer with 2,789 passing yards, running back Kerwin Bell with 498 rushing yards, and receiver Bob Johnson with 1,154 receiving yards. The captains were Frank Seurer, Mike Arbanas, Paul Fairchild, E. J. Jones, and Eddie Simmons.
