1980 FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship

The 1980 FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship was the second edition of Africa’s under-18 basketball championship. It took place in Luanda, Angola, from September 7 to September 13, 1980. Eight teams competed, drawn from 53 federations, with all games played in a single venue in Luanda.

The tournament used a round-robin format, and Angola finished undefeated at 5–0 to win their first title. By winning, Angola earned qualification for the 1983 FIBA Under-19 World Championship.

MVP of the tournament was Akeem Olajuwon (later known as Hakeem Olajuwon).

Participating teams: Angola, Central African Republic, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Togo.
