1973–74 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball

The 1973–74 Michigan Wolverines represented the University of Michigan in the 1973–74 season. They played home games at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor and were part of the Big Ten Conference. Head coach Johnny Orr led the team, with assistants Jim Dutcher, Bill Frieder, and Richard Carter (freshmen coach). Team captains were Campy Russell and C. J. Kupec. Campy Russell was the team MVP and a Consensus second-team All-American; he led the Big Ten in conference scoring with 24.0 points per game and won the Chicago Tribune Silver Basketball as Big Ten MVP. Orr was named Big Ten Coach of the Year.

The Wolverines began the season unranked but stayed in the AP Top Twenty for 12 of 18 weeks, climbing as high as No. 6 and finishing No. 12 in the final UPI Coaches poll. They set a school single-game assist record with 32 assists against Purdue on February 23, 1974, a mark that stood until 1987. They finished with a 22–5 overall record and 12–2 in the Big Ten, tying for first place with Indiana.

In the NCAA tournament, a 25-team field, Michigan earned a bye in the Mideast region, defeated Notre Dame 77–68, and reached the Elite Eight before losing to Marquette 72–70. The team also played in the Michigan Invitational, the Los Angeles Classic (Pauley Pavilion), the Big Ten playoff in Champaign, and the NCAA Tournament site at Memorial Coliseum in Tuscaloosa.

Five players from this team were drafted into the NBA.
